My Peace Corps acceptance timeline

Updated: Jul 31, 2019

At a Peace Corps Baltimore send-off event

Here is my timeline from when I applied to Peace Corps (PC) to when I was invited to serve:

  • November 14, 2018- I submitted my application for Youth Development Specialist (YDS) in Morocco to PC

  • November 15- I received an email saying they had received my application

  • February 7, 2019- I received an "under consideration" email detailing the duties of a YDS in Morocco

  • March 14- My application was reviewed and I was invited to do a Skype interview (and in the email they gave me the questions that they would ask me in the interview)

  • April 1- They sent me a follow-up email about the interview (I never saw that last email so I didn't respond...)

  • April 5- I had my interview via Skype (typically 60-90 minutes)

  • **April 8- "Congratulations! You have been selected to serve as a Peace Corps Volunteer, pending medical and legal clearance."

**From the day you receive the acceptance email, you have 3 days to decide on if you will join or not- no extensions.

At the end of April, Peace Corps invitees and Returned Peace Corps Volunteers (RPCVs) serving in several different destinations were invited to a potluck to talk, hear about different experiences, learn about Peace corps, and sending off the next cohort of volunteers (and also to get free stuff :). It really hit me at this meeting that I would be living in Morocco for two years, so I was really excited by the time I left.
